Margo Harris Hammerschlag Biennial Open National Competition in Sculpture for Direct Carving

General Information

• A grant of $10,000 will be awarded to a woman artist whose media is direct carving.
• Applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent U.S. resident.
• A committee of three arts professionals will review the work of the candidates. The final decision will be made based on artistic excellence.
• All work must be original. A minimum of 75% of an individual work must have been produced by direct carving.

Award Notification

• Award winner will be notified in February 2009 through certified mail.Winner will also be posted on the N.A.W.A. website: www.nawanet.org.
• N.A.W.A. reserves the right to use slide images of artist's work selected for publicity and educational purposes.
• All committee decisions are final.

Required Application Materials

• Twenty (20) slides of directly carved sculpture (a minimum of ten works) or (20) images, CD-R submission, JPEG format for PC. No other formats will be accepted.
• Slides must be mounted in cardboard or plastic mounts, no oversize or glass mounted slides.Number slides in the order you would like them viewed. Print name and title and place a red dot on the lower left corner of slide mount to insure proper viewing. Slides should be placed in numerical order into one 8.5" x 11" clear plastic slide page. Include three copies of the slide identification sheet on 8.5" x 11" sized paper. List the following information: Slide number, title, dimensions (height x width x depth in inches), date of completion year, and all materials used.Each slide should be numbered to correspond to slide sheet.
• Three copies of a maximum two-page artist resume and three copies of an artist's statement.
• A self-addressed, stamped postcard for acknowledgement of receipt of your application.
• A self- addressed stamped envelope for return of your slides or CD.
• Application fee of $35 made payable to N.A.W.A.

All application materials must be received on or before November 20, 2008 at the N.A.W.A. office.
